Warlock 1/2 are fantasy 4x games that might come pretty close to scratching a similar itch to the Age of Wonders style. The Core system for units is quite novel and innovative for the entire genre as well. ![]() Its take on rogue-like dungeons is a path I sincerely wish AoW would have gone down, but I understand why they slimmed down into the 'shiny arenas' we have instead. MoM is basically the game that started the whole genre.ĭeity Empires isn't the prettiest game, but it is a wonderful indie game with a lot of charm and mechanical depth/innovation for the genre. ![]() There's quite a lot tactical depth in the combat althought it has simplistic approach to execution in general.Master of Magic recently had a remastered version if you don't want to try to get the original working on modern hardware. The UI and gameplay per se looks kind of colorful and jolly. The tutorial seems to have some storytelling involved. Start with the tutorial (which is the start of a campaign) and play a couple of games to find your favorite race / secret tech combo.Įnjoy! And don't be afraid to ask if you have questions :) The game is already very comprehensive and full of content. Still, the best start would be without mods in my opinion. It adds more units for the factions of the game. I would suggest to try it out much much later.Īnother mod I like is Expanded Arsenal, which is very vanilla-friendly. ![]() I would suggest all DLCs since they add so much in terms of mechanics, races, etc.įor mods, Adventure Mod is pretty big but a complete overhaul. I always liked Master of Magic so I'll give this a try.Īre there any particular mods / content / DLC you'd recommend? Something to streamline or enchance playing or UI or smth?Ĭongratulations! It's one of my favorite games and I hope you'll like it as well. Originally posted by Screaming Stukas:I bought it.
